How we can handle our biggest fear through our perseverance and God’s guidance.
Often, we are presented with challenges, and there will be days when we’ll think that we are incapable to face it, thus overwhelming ourselves with fear. As a basic human emotion, experiencing fear is normal. But once we are overwhelmed with it, we tread the road with our eyes wide open but our faith shut. We feel that we are incapable of doing great things because we are isolated in this world with our troubles. But through perseverance and patience, God can take all our fears away. It only takes trust and faith that our prayers will be answered by Him. Let us take a look at Abram’s story.
“Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” (Genesis 15:1)
God promised Abram and his wife Sarai that they would be blessed and become a great nation once they left the country. They had no children. Ten years had passed, and there were still no signs that Sarai would give birth soon. Abram was getting old, and Sarai could not bear children anymore. The couple doubted God’s promise, and they feared that the promise would not be fulfilled. For 25 years, they waited and eventually, the couple gave birth to many children, transforming Abram into “Abraham,” the “father of many.”
God already has the answers to our prayers, but he only delays for us to build a stronger faith in Him. He doesn’t want our faith to be taken for granted. He gives us the chance to prove ourselves worthy of His grace. But this takes a great deal of trust. God wants us to know more about Him by teaching us these traits not directly but through our struggles and mistakes.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Abraham’s story is a reflection of fear. God is our shield, our rescue against danger, and our protection against doubts and fears.
“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalms 34:4)
Our faith grows when we believe in God amidst our struggles in life. Faith cannot grow with the absence of fear. Our prayers may still be unanswered, but by trusting in Him, we will soon receive his grace when he deems that it is the right time for the glory is only to God.
